Board Member, Director of Community Engagement
The New York City Classical Guitar Society (NYCCGS) is seeking a Director of Community Engagement to join its Board of Directors. This is a hands-on volunteer leadership role focused on expanding NYCCGS’s reach, deepening audience relationships, and strengthening connections across New York City’s performing arts and cultural communities.

Role Overview
The Director of Community Engagement leads efforts to grow and diversify NYCCGS’s audience and community presence. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategies that foster meaningful engagement with audiences, partners, and the broader cultural ecosystem. Working closely with fellow Board members, the Director ensures that engagement initiatives align with NYCCGS’s programming, partnerships, fundraising, and long-term strategic goals.
Scope & Authority
The Director of Community Engagement collaborates with the Board to shape and implement engagement strategy across events, partnerships, and outreach channels. This includes identifying opportunities for collaboration, guiding audience development efforts, and reporting on engagement outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute a community engagement program generously funded by the Augustine Fellowship through NYCCGS to expand audience reach and visibility
Program prelude concerts (pre-concert openers)
Build and maintain relationships with cultural institutions, community organizations, educators, as related to visiting artists
Identify and cultivate partnership opportunities across New York City’s arts ecosystem
Support audience development initiatives for concerts, educational programs, and special events
Collaborate with the Director of Marketing (or marketing function) to align messaging and outreach efforts
Advise on design and promotion of community-focused programming, including workshops, talks, and outreach events
Gather and synthesize feedback from audiences and partners to inform programming and strategy
Track and report on engagement metrics and outcomes to the Board
Participate in Board meetings and contribute to organizational planning and initiatives
Time Commitment
Approximately 4–10 hours per month, this includes board meetings, concerts, planning, and ongoing engagement activities. Time commitment may increase during major events or partnership initiatives.
Qualifications
Experience or strong interest in community engagement, partnerships, and audience development
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build relationships and represent the organization externally
Strong organizational skills and follow-through
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a volunteer Board structure
Passion for music, the arts, and/or New York City’s cultural landscape
Commitment to NYCCGS’s mission and values
Collaborate with the Board to support fundraising efforts through community partnerships, audience development, and engagement-driven initiatives
Help cultivate relationships that contribute to sponsorships, donations, and institutional support
Support the planning and execution of community-centered fundraising events and donor engagement opportunities
Preferred Experience
Experience working with arts, nonprofit, or cultural organizations
Existing connections within New York City’s arts, education, or community sectors
Experience organizing events, partnerships, or outreach initiatives
Familiarity with audience engagement or community-building strategies
Residence in New York City preferred; Tri-State Area candidates will be considered

Role Overview
The Director of Marketing serves as the Board’s lead for marketing and audience development. This role is responsible for contributing to, developing, and executing NYCCGS’s digital marketing strategy, overseeing social media presence, analyzing performance data, and translating insights into actionable recommendations. The Director of Marketing works collaboratively with the Board to ensure that marketing efforts support programming, fundraising, and long-term organizational goals.
Scope & Authority
The Director of Marketing has joint ownership over NYCCGS’s marketing strategy in collaboration with other members of the board, with shared execution responsibilities across digital platforms. This includes planning campaigns, managing content direction, monitoring performance, and reporting results to the Board.
Key Responsibilities
Developing, managing, and advising on NYCCGS’s digital and social media marketing strategy
Growing NYCCGS’s presence across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Google Ads, and related channels
Suggesting and maintaining creative for a content calendar aligned with concerts, events, and fundraising initiatives
Analyzing social media and marketing analytics (engagement, reach, audience growth, conversions)
Translating data and trends into clear, actionable insights for the Board
Preparing brief marketing performance summaries for Board review
Oversee the creation of marketing assets using tools such as Canva or Adobe Express
Collaborating with other Board members on fundraising, audience development, and event promotion
Assisting with planning and promotion of concerts, fundraising events, member meetings, and social events
Attending Board meetings and participate in NYCCGS functions as needed
Time Commitment
Approximately 4–10 hours per month on average, including Board meetings, marketing planning, and ongoing campaign management. Time commitment may increase modestly during major concerts, fundraising campaigns, or seasonal initiatives.
Qualifications
Experience or demonstrated interest in marketing, communications, or audience development
Strong organizational and communication skills
Comfort working with analytics and performance metrics
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a volunteer Board
Passion for classical guitar, music, and/or New York City’s performing arts community
Commitment to the mission and values of NYCCGS
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with NYCCGS or similar arts and nonprofit organizations
Experience managing social media accounts for arts, nonprofit, or cultural institutions
Experience with Google Ads or other paid digital advertising platforms
Working knowledge of Google Sheets, Excel, Airtable, or similar tools
Familiarity with social media insights, Google Analytics, or related analytics platforms
Residence in New York City preferred; Tri-State Area candidates will be considered
